In First Man based on the 2005 non-fiction book by James R. Hansen, Ryan Gosling plays American NASA astronaut Neil Armstrong. In the biopic we follow his early flight training in rockets to the Earth’s upper atmosphere, the sacrifices he, his wife ‘Janet’ and family make at home, and eventually his travels into space to the Moon for the first time on the Apollo 11 mission with Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969.
These First Man costumes were designed by Mary Zophres and were photographed on display at Downtown L.A.’s FIDM Museum on February 5, 2019.
The Apollo A7L NASA spacesuit was manufactured by Global Effects, Inc., whilst the silver X-15 flight suit was made by Ryan Nagata.
